Beth Silvaggio remembers not being able to fit into the clothes she wore before gaining 65 pounds while pregnant. The pants and blouses were reminders of the thin, fit woman Silvaggio was before giving birth in Sept. 2006 for the third time.
"My biggest satisfaction is pulling out the clothes that used to not fit and not being stressed out about what to wear," Silvaggio said. "It's great because there were lots of people who only saw me pregnant. They didn't know who I really am. Now when I see them, they'll make a comment and I'll say, I'm back to the original Beth, the person you didn't get to see."
Silvaggio said "I Lost it at the Club" gave her the motivation to shed the pounds.
"I got to the point at home where I was avoiding the scale," Silvaggio said. "It wasn't going down. Then I started 'I Lost it at the Club' and the weekly weigh-in is anonymous but kept me accountable. I needed to be held accountable just not tied to the scale."
Silvaggio also benefited from partnering with Wendy Laubach, a Universal Athletic Club member who gave birth about three weeks before Silvaggio and wanted to lose weight. The pair meet at Universal Athletic Club six days a week. They leave their children at Kidz Club while they take group fitness classes or lift weights with a personal trainer.
"One of the keys for me was finding someone in the same place," Silvaggio said. "I knew Wendy was an acquaintance. She had a goal to lose weight. We became accountable for one another and through it great friends. There were days when I didn't feel motivated but Wendy was there to help me and I would help her too."
Silvaggio also completed the Healthy Inspirations program at Universal Athletic Club. Daily exercise and healthy eating habits are part of her lifestyle.
"When I talk to someone about working out, I often hear, 'It's boring,'" Silvaggio said. "Not at Universal because there are so many classes and programs to take that variety is never an issue!"
