"I saw what they were doing and thought, 'I can do that'," Chuck said. After working his way up, Chuck began competing in the World Natural Powerlifting Federation (WNPF).
In Nov. 2007, Chuck set a dead lift world record of 325 pounds during an event in Atlanta, GA.
On May 30, 2008, Chuck set a national barbell curl record in the over age 70, 220-pound class. He lifted 100 pounds during a WNPF event in Ephrata.
As Chuck approaches the end of his second year as a competitive power lifter, he plans to drop to the 198-pound weight class. The weight class change would give Chuck more opportunities to set records.
"Being a record setting power lifter is about technique," Chuck said. "I've learned the technique, now I want to take it to the next level and get even stronger."
Chuck continues to come to Universal Athletic Club for two hours a day about 4-5 days a week to do an hour of cardio and lift weights. "I've never looked at age as a barrier," he said. "I also discovered that I enjoy going to the gym. I would rather workout than play golf or ping pong."
