My goal for signing up for THRIVE Training at Universal was to get to a healthy weight and feel comfortable with myself. I heard great things from other participants in the program; when I decided to give it a try for myself I loved it.
I learned from my initial Functional Movement Screening that I had horrible balance and lacked the strength to be able to do some pretty basic things. I was surprisingly flexible in other areas, though.

Being in a group setting with other people who genuinely want to see you succeed is a real motivator. I can’t stress enough how great my THRIVE trainer Andrea is; she truly believes in everyone.

“I first enrolled in the THRIVE Training program at UAC to get back in shape, regain some strength, lose fat and increase my energy level. I’ve always enjoyed working out, but on my own it’s hard to stay consistent, design my own workouts, monitor my progress and keep up the Intensity.
The THRIVE program and my trainer, Andrea Thomas, have been fantastic! I always feel better afterwards, and she helps hold me accountable. I enjoy the variety of exercises, including the stretching and warm-up. I never feel like I’m doing the same exercises over and over. Many of the exercises require a lot of balance and stability. I like that because it requires a lot of smaller muscles from the rest of my body.
The workouts have definitely increased my strength in all areas, including my legs, upper body, and core. They’ve also helped me burn extra calories during the week. This is an added bonus because I’m trying to keep my weight down. I also love the group atmosphere. For me the intensity is perfect and I enjoy meeting other people and going through a workout with them.”
“The best part about the program is Andrea’s expertise and motivation. Every time I come in, I know it’s going to be a well-organized workout that will kick my butt! She does an excellent job of explaining the exercises and demonstrating all of them. She really wants you to understand the best form and why it’s important. Andrea also does a great job of challenging me with the right weights. She knows when I’m slacking, but she also knows when I might be tired or having an off night. I really appreciate that.
Just remember it takes commitment on your part. If you can make sure that you get to the class every week, good things will happen! Getting there is 90% of the battle. Once you’re there, it’s all good; THRIVE at UAC is a great program!”
