If you make your health a priority, you will find the time and energy.

With the amount of classes offered each day, including virtual, and just the pure variety, there’s no way you can’t find a class that works with your schedule AND drives you!
I am so happy overall, and I think that joining UAC has been one of the best decisions of my life.
The coaches give me constructive criticism and push me to be my best!
“I am so happy overall, and I think that joining UAC has been one of the best decisions of my life.”
“I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), which is a hormonal imbalance that can cause obesity, insulin resistance, high cholesterol and other health risks. I learned through my doctors that regular exercise has incredible benefits that go way beyond weight loss for women with PCOS. Exercise helps boost insulin sensitivity and lower cholesterol. It also helps reduce the risk of heart disease while regulating hormone imbalance.
I wanted to be healthier through exercise, so I began looking for the best gym in the area for me. I wanted an affordable place where I could feel comfortable, and I wanted to be able to take classes according to my schedule. Since joining the club, I have done a bit of everything, including aqua-fitness classes, BODYPUMP, but ZUMBA is my favorite, I love to dance!
I am so happy overall, and I think that joining UAC has been one of the best decisions of my life. Not only I have lost 60 pounds for my wedding and improved my health (still work in progress), but I have gained tons of good friends. UAC is more than a gym… it is a community and I just love being part of it. My husband comes to UAC with me.
My advice to others? Everyone’s journey is different, so never compare yourself to anyone else. UAC has something for everyone. Find a program that you enjoy so you do not feel like you are working out, and don’t forget to try to get to know the people who love doing the same routine as you. If you see me around the gym, feel free to say ‘hi’ to me and introduce yourself. I am always happy to meet new, interesting people and make new friends. We are all in this together and we are here to help each other!”
“In just 8 short weeks, this nutrition and exercise plan will change your life for the better.”
I wanted to be healthier, lose some weight and get stronger. I saw a poster hanging up in Universal Athletic Club about an 8-Week ‘Shape Up’ program that included both the nutritional component & Thrive fitness training program, so I decided to give this a try.
The accountability has been wonderful. The Nutrition & Wellness team have been incredibly encouraging and are highly knowledgeable. The actual food plan is easy to follow and truly does work if you stick with it. All the food is real and ‘wholesome’ and I never felt hungry on this plan. I no longer drink any sodas; I feel amazing and don’t miss drinking them. It is all about dedication and determination.
The Thrive program is incredible as well. I wasn’t sure if it would be for me, but I love it! It is challenging and I enjoy the variety of exercises. My trainer Ryan is outstanding and engaging, and he makes sure that I am doing the exercises correctly in order to get the most benefits. I also tried a couple group fitness classes including CXWORX, BODYFLOW and Pilates classes at Universal.
I would highly suggest that anyone get involved with the combined ‘Shape-Up’ program (nutrition and Thrive). In just 8 short weeks it will change your life for the better. Thank you, Universal, for this wonderful experience!
Lost 57 pounds and 54.5 inches through Weigh Way Less Program!
“I feel like a new woman mentally and physically! Before joining Universal, I was unmotivated, sluggish, physically struggling and just tired. Mentally I was stuck in a rut. I knew something had to change, and joining UAC forced me, in a sense, to do what I already knew I needed to do.
Learning How to Eat Smart
I heard about Universal’s Nutrition & Wellness Center when I became a member of the club, and I chose to enroll in the WEIGH WAY LESS program because I definitely needed to lose some pounds.
Getting help from the Nutrition & Wellness Center was the best decision I could’ve made for myself! After seeing the results in just the first four weeks of the program, I was motivated and ready to start my journey!
The WEIGH WAY LESS program is excellent, and the staff (including Cathy, Heather & Jenn) have been amazing in helping me to achieve my goals. What I like about the program is that it’s simple to follow, realistic in terms of teaching you how to eat long term, not just temporarily! The staff is very knowledgeable, supportive and encouraging. They are able to relate to you in your struggles, give you that push you need to get back or stay on track, and give you the tools you need to succeed!
I have surpassed my weight loss goals thanks to the Shape Up program at Universal! In Universal’s Nutrition & Wellness Center, there is no pressure from the staff; just encouragement. I needed to know there are others just like me, and I feel that here. The consultants are promoting a way of life, not a diet, and the program is realistic. After 75 years of life, I’ve learned how to read food labels. I’m replacing chips with veggies for snacks, and it’s satisfying. My cravings have stopped.
The nutrition consultants suggested that I change my exercise routine and add Thrive Functional Training sessions at UAC. I tried a free Thrive session and loved it. I signed up and now attend Thrive two times a week. Weigh Way Less and Thrive – the two together – have worked for me. I’m easily bored with exercise but not bored with Thrive. My trainer, Elisse, is awesome!
Lost over 45 pounds through UAC’s WEIGH WAY LESS program
“On my birthday I signed up for the program because I knew it was time to do something for my health. I had tried many quick weight loss schemes in the past, and then ALWAYS gained back the weight. I wanted a proven program that would finally work for me, even if it took time. I chose the WEIGH WAY LESS program because I wanted a balanced approach to healthy eating and weight loss.
The program is awesome! I cannot say enough positive things about the weight loss coaches. They hold me accountable and are so encouraging. WEIGH WAY LESS is truly a plan that you can envision yourself using for the long term. It’s all laid out for you, easy to follow, AND they meet with you and encourage you along the way! It is truly the best plan I’ve found!”
The Leflar Family
“The biggest decision in joining Universal was the opportunities it had for my children. I have looked around, and no other gyms compare to Universal. My kids love the Kidz Klub with the three-tiered play area. With a large, fun space and attentive staff, it has been a great fit. I can focus on my health without feeling guilty about taking time away from my kids.
When I first joined the club I met several times with a Universal Fitness Coach who was excellent. She helped me through so much of my beginners’ jitters! She asked about my goals and took me out onto the floor to get me started on all of the equipment, which helped subside that overwhelming feeling. My coach also encouraged me to try Group Fitness classes for extra motivation and variety.
What started as a general fitness journey has changed into a specific goal. I’m planning to compete in a fitness competition in 2018. I have never felt so strong both physically and mentally. Lifting weights and regular exercise not only strengthens you from the outside, but it most definitely strengthens your mind as well.
Universal has also become a healthy outlet for the kids. Now they get very upset if I go to the gym without them! : ) They have taken swim lessons here, and my son has enjoyed the Taekwondo class, which is included in our membership! It gives us all an opportunity to be active together, and it allows me to instill the importance of an active healthy lifestyle at a young age.”

“We have a rhythm in the family that makes it all work. Routines work best for us, so we make special arrangements together so that we all have the chance to enjoy UAC. It keeps us all active. I love that our children are growing up knowing they need to keep their bodies healthy. Exercise at UAC is fun for them, and that is an invaluable lesson! Having a space where the boys can run, play, and be active with other kids is great for them.
“Also, Emily, one of the Massage Therapist in BLU Luxury Salon & Spa inside UAC is wonderful! I would highly recommend her!”

“With the amount of classes offered each day, including virtual, and just the pure variety, there’s no way you can’t find a class that works with your schedule AND drives you!”
Universal has changed my life. We’ve been members for over 14 years. Before that, I used to view exercise as a chore. At my old gym, I exercised regularly (treadmill, elliptical), but I never viewed myself as truly fit. The difference is that when you become fit, you actually look forward to exercise and it becomes fun! Universal transformed me from being in ‘so so’ shape to fabulously fit!
I first got involved in Group Fitness classes when I joined Universal. The only Les Mills classes offered at that time were BODYSTEP and BODYPUMP. The instructors were personal from the day I joined, asking my name and encouraging me during class when I had two left feet! The music is very driving, and the moves are constantly changing with each song. For these reasons, I became hooked on Group Fitness!
I stay committed to my routine because I choose the classes I want to attend and I work my schedule around it. I treat the time of a class like a doctors appointment. If I were not to pick a certain time for my workout, I would find 100 more things I could do than workout. The set class times keep me accountable, and so do the friends I’ve made in class. It’s way more fun to work out in a group! Even us class attendees push each other to work harder!
In addition, our kids love the Kidz Klub and my older two have even taken some classes with me and my husband, so it can be a family activity! And what better thing can you do for your children than encourage a healthy lifestyle and stay fit for them, so you have the energy to be the best parents you can be! And did I forget to mention the stress relief that comes along with it? That’s the cherry on top!

“When you work out at Universal, you really can have your cake and eat it too!”
One of the most attractive aspects of Universal is the fact that the staff, in every department and in every capacity, does whatever it takes to ensure that the members have an experience that enhances our desire to spend the time at the facility. And this helps us achieve better health. We enjoy spending that time at Universal, because the environment provided to members is truly unique.
I believe this great environment stems from the pride the entire team takes in being the best. From the tireless efforts of the custodial team to the active engagement of instructors and management with the membership, the experience at Universal is constantly improving and provides us with the support needed to feel like we can do whatever it takes to meet and beat our fitness goals!
Thanks to my workouts at Universal, I feel so physically prepared for these races. Beyond that, UAC also serves as a positive mental outlet for me.
I was going through some life changes and needed to make some positive lifestyle choices. First on my list was using my energy to better myself physically and emotionally. Universal Athletic Club seemed to be a great fit; and at that time little did I know it would become such a great part of my life in so many ways.
At the time of joining UAC I was coasting into turning 40. While I enjoyed sports and activities, I did not have the energy to make my physical activities feel worthwhile, including golf. Additionally, I was a cigar smoker at the time of joining and remained so for about a year and a half. I continued my workout schedule, loving it all the way. I knew in the back of my head that the smoking was holding me back from becoming stronger and more fit.
My son, in all the great ways a child can, encouraged me and was my inspiration to stop smoking in early 2017.
HOW I GOT STARTED
My experience from the day I first walked through the doors at UAC has been mind blowing in so many awesome ways.
Amanda, my Fitness Coach when I joined, sat down with me to discuss what types of workouts I might like based on my personality. During the session I spoke of my love for music, so she suggested I tried some workouts that are choreographed to music, such as Group Fitness classes. I tried BODYPUMP the next Saturday morning; and I loved how I got a great workout, yet the time flew by. Soon the 5:45AM weekday PUMP workout became the “time to lift the doughnuts” class for me.
HOW I STAYED HOOKED
I soon began trying so many other Group Fitness classes at UAC thanks to the t-shirt challenges, and I realized how much I loved them. BODYFLOW is such a great “balance and repair” class for all the stresses in life. BODYATTACK, especially the 8:30AM Saturday class, is as much a party as it is a major cardio and sweat-fest for me. The staff at UAC are top notch. Everyone is helpful and makes your time invested at the club an enjoyable experience. All of the instructors and trainers are not only great at teaching the fitness aspects of what a gym’s primary goal would be, but also, I genuinely feel as though the staff and trainers want to get to know you on a first name basis and see you succeed.
My eye turned to Spartan races as a new goal to achieve, and I began training for this. I completed my first Spartan race in 2017, and in 2018 I completed a Spartan Trifecta. This is composed of a Sprint (4 miles on a mountain), Super (7+ miles), and Beast (13+ miles). All three were on mountains! I also did additional OCR (Obstacle Course Races) in 2018. Apparently, I like OCR’s as a genuine hobby now.
Thanks to my workouts at Universal, I feel so physically prepared for these races. Beyond that, UAC also serves as a positive mental outlet for me. This helps clear my head and release the stresses of work and life in general. I’m also proud of the fact that I’ve lost about 30 pounds and feel more athletic overall.
A FAMILY PLACE
In addition to my workouts, my son has been coming to Summer Camp U and Holiday Day Camp for years now. He enjoys the club, and recently I have added him as a full member. We come and shoot hoops, and he will try out some of the group fitness classes soon.
I also feel like the UAC instructors have become family to me. I have developed not only a great respect for them, but I am also proud to call them my friends. Kristie and Jackie are fantastic PUMP instructors for my early morning classes. Robyn has great Tuesday and Thursday night FLOW classes. Liz, Robyn, and Kristie rock the house on Saturday mornings in ATTACK!
MY ADVICE TO OTHERS
For those new or getting back into a healthy lifestyle, I would suggest a few things: Try a few classes out to see what fits your style and schedule. Also, try to go to a class the first or second time that is staffed by a UAC Ambassador. The Ambassadors like Elena, Vanessa, and Teddy are awesome to see in the club. They welcome and help members (both new and established) and help them get setup for success in the classes.
Give it your best and try getting to know the people staff and members around you at Universal. In addition to the staff being great, the members are friendly and we all want to have a positive experience while making our bodies and minds better. I have grown some lasting relationships in the past few years through encouragement and high fives before, during or after a class.
A LITTLE EXTRA BONUS
Not that you join a gym to get married, but I met my fiancé, Lisa, through my time and friendship connections here at Universal. I could not be happier having such a wonderful place to share with her!
“I’m stronger and faster than I’ve ever been!
After having quadruplets 5 years ago, I lost a lot of my strength and endurance. It was hard to find the time and motivation to get back into the shape I had been in previously.
After signing up for small group training with Universal trainer Tricia Siegenthaler, not only did I safely gain back my strength and endurance, I also gained more knowledge about fitness. I now feel stronger and faster than I was before I had children. I can lift up to 30 pounds more than before, and my mile split has decreased by more than 30 seconds. I now have more motivation to work out on my own and to eat healthily.
Tricia’s workouts motivate me to push myself harder than I would on my own. All of her workouts are functional, practical, and well planned out. I look forward to the workouts and challenging myself during these sessions!”
I have enjoyed feeling strong again and having the desire to workout.
Two years ago I ran a 1/2 marathon in the Spring (and it snowed) followed by a 1/2 marathon in the Fall (and there was 101 degree heat index!). Other than simply finishing, I didn’t I feel very accomplished in either run and decided to take a break.
I changed my focus and spent the following two years coaching Girls on the Run and supporting my daughters in their sports and training. I began looking for a fitness program or facility that would reignite my desire to train for myself, yet continue to involve my family. And that is what we have found with Universal! My family members and I can all go to workout together, or come to the club at different times… focusing on our individual exercise routines while having a common goal of staying healthy!
After initially joining Universal, my Membership Representative (Tracy) really listened to all my interests and needs. She encouraged me to try several different programs in the club, and I felt that group sessions (called “Team Training”) with UAC trainer Shawn Blake was the best match for me. Shawn really customizes a work out, provides positive feedback and encouragement, and keeps me motivated.
Mentally I have enjoyed feeling strong again and having the desire to workout. The strength training is making cardio more enjoyable. For the first time in two years I ran five miles, and felt as though I could keep going. I felt better mentally, and my joints were happier too! (Since beginning weight training, I have noticed that I have less joint aches.) I am now considering running a 1/2 marathon again soon!
Going to a gym as large as Universal might seem intimidating at first, but the friendly staff members make the large building seem very personalized and unique. Each staff member is there to help YOU succeed!
Congratulations to members of UAC “Team Training” program led by Personal Trainer Tricia Siegenthaler for completing the Acre Breaker Adventure Race in November 2018! Thanks to their training sessions, these dedicated members were able to take on the challenge and crush their times during the 4 miles of mud and obstacles!
The Team Training program helps clients develop muscular and aerobic endurance, increase anaerobic capacity, and build upper and lower body strength. Tricia incorporates the use of dumbbells, barbells, kettle bells, plyo boxes and more, testing their clients’ physical and mental limits while giving them the opportunity to compete safely in a friendly environment.
This particular group of Acre Breaker competitors said they have been able to increase their bodies’ ability to recover quicker so that they can finish stronger! Way to go team!

Nick L., written by his wife
“Just a quick note to say ‘Thank You’ for hiring Stacy Brown. She has been my husband’s personal trainer for a few months and what progress he has made! When I suggested that he go to UAC two days a week to work with a personal trainer, he had many hesitations. He had already experienced several months of varied therapists and doctors following a medical event in his life. But the second he met Stacy all of the hesitations disappeared. This is not just a job for her; she genuinely cares about his success, and it shows in her actions.
Nick’s balance has greatly improved, and as Stacy increases the weights, he has discovered strength again in his arms. After every session he is beaming while she tells me what new accomplishment he has mastered. He now looks forward to coming to the gym because he knows he’s going to see Stacy. I’m happy because I know he is safe and I can comfortably leave him and get a workout of my own! Stacy is a key ingredient to his recovery and I am most appreciative!” – Tricia L.
“If you make your health a priority, you will find the time and energy”
When I initially toured the UAC upon joining the club, I was struck by the number of classes that were offered in a UAC membership and appreciated how my Member Services Representative, Greg, and my Fitness Coach, Dan, took me around to each area of the club to explain the different types of facilities and exercises.
Thrive stood out because of its trainer-driven and results-oriented approach to functional movement based on a foundation of safe and proven exercise routines. As someone with limited experience in fitness courses and personal training, (and being new to the Lancaster area) Thrive offered me a chance to connect with a professional trainer and build camaraderie with a small group of others during flexible, yet routinely-scheduled, sessions.
As someone who works in IT, I find myself struggling to overcome the sedentary nature of an office job mixed with the unhealthy aspects of business travel. I wanted to generally improve my overall health, boost self-esteem, and be happier with my body. After my first few workouts with my Thrive coach, Andrea, I quickly saw that I had much to gain from continuing with the program, such as building endurance, strength training, and setting & accomplishing goals for myself.
I like the different “zones” of every Thrive workout, starting with a Prime that allows our muscles to warm up and fully stretch to prevent injury… all the way through a Power, Strength and Burn zone that help improve movements and physical endurance in daily life. I also appreciate quarterly Fitness Assessments that evaluate our progress every three months.
I’ve accomplished a lot with Thrive – for starters, I am happier. This alone makes Thrive worthwhile. In addition to feeling stronger and being able to exercise at a level that is both challenging and rewarding, it is hard to put a value on generally feeling better about yourself. The group that exercises together, bonds together. I have made new friends and laughed far more than I ever expected. Physically, I have substantially increased the amount of weight I am able to lift. I also ran my first 5K in 15 years, and just the other day at work I overheard someone say, “yeah but I’m not fit like Will…” That literally blew my mind! I have never been “the fit guy” before!
What advice do you have for others who might feel intimidated to take that first step?
Just keep showing up! It’s easy after a long day to say, “I don’t want to go to the gym/I’m tired/another time” but if you make your health a priority, you will find the time and energy. I think that group sessions are key for building and achieving my goals, and I appreciate the flexibility with my busy work schedule. Moving to Lancaster recently was a big adjustment for me, and I can honestly say joining Thrive and sticking with it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long, long time.
I have lost over 30 pounds and I feel great about myself. I have more energy now!
“I wanted to lose weight and get healthier overall. I have some friends my age who are starting to see health issues develop like diabetes, heart problems and arthritis. I already had high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar. I was also pre-diabetic so I wanted to do something about it.
I chose Thrive Training at Universal because my wife really liked it and has experienced good results from it. I like that I just show up and my trainer explains and shows us what to do. I would never be able to do that on my own. My trainer will correct my form during our sessions, and I appreciate that. I want to get the most out of my workouts.
I also really enjoy biking so I also started outdoor road cycling. Thrive helped get me in shape for this, and I rode over 800 miles in the last 6 months. I started taking Universal’s RPM and Sprint indoor cycling classes so I can keep going over the winter.
I have cut back on my sugar intake and increased my protein and water intake after starting Thrive. I have lost over 30 pounds and I feel great about myself. I have more energy now. My cholesterol is lower than it has been in years and I am no longer pre-diabetic! My depression has been greatly alleviated now that I feel better about myself, and I have cut back on the anti-depressant medication I had been taking.
My advice to other is to not worry about what others think. We all started somewhere. If you have a condition that might prevent you from doing an exercise, the trainers at UAC will substitute it something with else.
The Thrive trainers at UAC are always encouraging members to keep going and not give up. They start everyone out at their own level, and they steps things up as they learn what we can handle. I’m proud of how far I’ve come!
“I had just lost 30 pounds for my 2 daughters’ weddings, and the weight was starting to come back on. I desperately wanted something to help me maintain everything I had achieved. I enrolled in an 8-Week ‘Shape Up’ program at UAC which added the WEIGH WAY LESS plan on to my THRIVE Training, giving me the perfect combination of accountability with food and exercise.
THRIVE has been challenging for me but doable. I had a gym phobia when I first started, so having someone tell me exactly what to do, how to do it, and push me a bit has been exactly what I needed.”
“When I first joined Universal, my goal was to lose weight and feel stronger. Trying a month of functional workouts led by a trainer in a small group really appealed to me.
The THRIVE training program has helped me feel stronger and kept me focused on my weight loss journey, so I decided to continue on with the training sessions. I have lost 40 pounds by combining this program with a focus on my daily eating habits.
THRIVE has an extremely welcoming team of trainers who go the extra mile to adjust workouts to your level. They continuously challenge you to improve, and I enjoy seeing progression in my workouts.
What made you interested in training in UAC’s Sports Performance Center?
I was interested in trying track events but I was too young to do track in school. My mom did some searching for track-related training and we found UAC’s Sports Performance Program. I wanted to try it out because it looked fun. Then when we met Coach Charley, he made me feel so welcome right away. From the very first time I did the athletic evaluation I was hooked.
What were your specific goals when starting the training program?
I was looking for something new after years of competitive gymnastics. I wanted to learn different running techniques and push how fast I could become.
How do you feel that the training has helped you improve your skills?
The coaches give me constructive criticism and push me to be my best. I’m also learning new weight lifting techniques and building more muscles.
What types of workouts does your trainer have you do to improve your athletic performance?
We do pull-ups, weight lifting, kettlebell and dumbbell exercises, and pushups to improve our strength. We also do sleds, 5-10-5 runs, 50-yard shuttles, and “suicide sprints” to work on running techniques. My favorites are the shuttles because they are most like a race, and I’m really competitive.
Anything else you would like to share about your experience?
I would recommend the Sports Performance Program to anyone who asks because not only do you improve your running speed and strength, but you get to meet new friends from different schools and awesome coaches who are really encouraging and supportive of your journey!
“About a year ago, Anisa was sidelined with a mystery back injury that had her in constant pain from November until about April. She endured back spasms, (which at times were daily), countless doctors appointments, multiple of rounds of physical therapy, and trips to DuPont and CHOP, with no understanding why this was happening to her.
Over the summer, we enrolled her in Universal’s Sports Performance program to rebuild the strength she had lost. But more importantly, we wanted her to be properly trained on how to exercise for sports so that never had to relive the pain from last year.
Thanks to the program, Anisa has experienced an improvement in speed, strength and agility to be able to play Lacrosse again.
As shared by Anisa…
“The injury took away all my strength. I first started going to Universal’s Sports Performance sessions after I received the ‘all is clear’ from my doctors. When I first started it was very hard since I hadn’t been able to do any physical activity for over 6 months.
My experience here has been amazing! I love my trainers because they have helped me so much. Because of them, I am so much stronger and faster now.
Thor is 13 years old and an 8th grader in the Lampeter Strasburg School District. He plays Lacrosse for IM3 and Hockey for Team Philadelphia.
“I used to be one of the slower players on my team but now I am one of the fastest thanks to the all the strength and speed training Universal’s Sports Performance program. You can tell the the trainers actually care about you and your sports. They help guide you throughout your career. My favorite workouts are the trap bar, deadlifts, hang-cleans, bench press, and talking with everyone after the workouts.
I feel proud about being recruited by a few prep schools, making Team Philadelphia, and winning many Lacrosse tournaments this summer with my team. I would definitely recommend Universal’s Sports Performance program to my friends because of the great atmosphere and the challenge of the workouts.
Plays soccer for the club team Pennsylvania Classics.“I have trained at multiple facilities with different trainers, and Universal’s Sports Performance program is the best training I have ever received.
The training has helped to improve my speed and strength on the soccer field. I have been more effective during games because now I’m able to hold off defenders and run by them at speed. The training has helped me improve my overall athleticism which helps to prepare me for the next level, and I can help my team more on the field.
I like how my UAC trainer, Charley, pushes our training group and how he has the ability to get the best out of me during every session. I also like how he’s a perfectionist on form to help prevent injuries.
I enjoy the intensity and the completeness of the program, as it is perfect for developing the strength needed in all body parts and the speed needed to go any direction.”
“My goal in enrolling in the Sports Performance Program at UAC was to strengthening my core and back muscles due to the injuries that occurred when skating. Plus, after checking out the training classes, I thought they looked fun.
Thanks to the program and the guidance of my UAC Sports Performance coach, Charley, I increased my strength and core as well as my vertical jump, which has helped me when working on my triple figure skating jumps.
During our training sessions, I enjoy doing exercises like hang cleans, trap bar deadlifts and SLDL’s (standing leg deadlifts). We also do “change of direction” and sprints. My favorite drills are pushups, working with MB and tennis ball sprints.
While correcting our form on exercises and working on things to improve our athletic skills, Charley makes coming to class fun and worthwhile, which I really like.
I would definitely recommend the UAC Sports Performance program to others because it’s a fun way to work on your overall athletic skills to help improve your sport.”
Five days a week, Daniel trains with his wife Tami in the BOXFIIT program at UAC (designed by George Foreman III). They also take classes such as BODYPUMP when they can fit it in their busy schedules.
When Daniel first joined the club, he weighed 172 pounds, and he has achieved his goal of reaching 160 pounds! Tami had a goal of building her upper body strength, and she says she has seen a significant improvement.
“Our stamina has skyrocketed since we have been attending workout programs at UAC. We feel we have become quicker, and our minds are sharper and more alert,” said Tami.
“I am so ecstatic about my weight loss and toning! I can see the transformation in my body ever since doing the UAC Boxing program. My husband noticed it with great compliments. A few days ago I weighed myself on the scale and I couldn’t believe what I saw! I went to each scale in the gym just to make sure it wasn’t broken! I’ve lost 10 pounds thanks to my UAC Boxing workouts. Thank you, Universal, for your great facility and wonderful staff. It makes me motivated to keep going and to meet my goals. I am 50 years old and I never thought I could get the look of my youth back! Thank you, thank you… I am so excited!”
Dakota & Dathan Nesbitt
As shared by their mother, Amanda Nesbitt…
“We originally signed Dathan up for swim lessons because we wanted him to respect the water. He had no fear and would jump right in without hesitation. He didn’t know how to swim yet, so it was unsafe. We felt much more comfortable after he started swimming lessons at Universal. We chose private lessons to best suit our family’s busy schedule and for the one-on-one attention.”
“Dakota was born with a condition called Spina Bifida. Although she is cognitively on the same level as her peers, her mobility is delayed. She is paralyzed in her feet and has reduced sensation throughout her legs. If she were in a group class she would require a bit more attention from the teachers just to keep up. Private lessons have helped her advance at her own speed while getting extra attention that she needs.”
Age 13, High Red Belt, 3rd Degree
“I started taking Martial Arts classes at UAC in September 2015 because I was interested in finding a new sport I could enjoy. I like the structured classes and the challenges in training as I move up in belt rank.
Master Oplinger really supported me when I went to the state TKD competition. Mr. Hilbert gives me a physical challenge on Monday nights. The teacher assistants Chris and Andrew always make sure my forms are exact.
Taekwondo teaches respect for all people, and I use that in my other sports. It has helped with my coordination and mental strength. I have confidence in approaching people too. I also have more stamina for sparring. My goal is to one day reach 3rd degree black belt!”
Age 10, High Red Belt, 2nd Degree
“I started taking Martial Arts classes at UAC two years ago. I watched my big brother in class and I wanted to try it out. It looked fun. I used to take my dolls and make them do Taekwondo while I watched my brother!
In class I like how Mr. Hilbert encourages us to do better. The teacher assistants Chris and Andrew help us with our forms, and Master Oplinger makes sure our skills are sharp.
Out in the ‘real world’ Taekwondo definitely helps me with coordination and to follow directions. I have severe dyslexia and it helps my brain to focus and remember. It helps me get stronger too. My future goal is to earn my black belt in the fall, and to go to ‘States’ in the Spring!”
Jeremy is currently a Sergeant First Class, serving as a Senior Public Affairs Non-Commissioned Officer with the 326th MPAD out of Reading PA. Jeremy has served most of his 23+ years in the US Army Reserve, with about 6 years of Active Duty, including his first 2 years when he was stationed in Germany. Over the years he has been deployed to Bosnia (1997), Kosovo (2000), Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (2005/2006), Iraq (2009), and Kuwait (2018). In Kuwait, Jeremy was stationed at Camp Arifjan, as a member of the Special Operations Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve – supporting our partner forces in the fight against ISIS.
Jeremy returned from Kuwait in November 2018, and was happy to return to him “home base” fitness club, Universal Athletic Club.
Jeremy first joined UAC back in January of 2003. “I had felt it was time to take fitness a little more seriously. I wanted to score higher on my physical fitness test for the Army Reserve, and over the course of time I just got hooked on working out at UAC. I did mostly strength training and heavy amounts of cardio; first on the treadmill, gradually trying out different machines to see what worked for me.”
“Due to some challenging work schedule changes throughout the years, I had tried virtually EVERY other club in the area, but in the end I was always partial to UAC. I made up my mind during my time in Kuwait that I was coming right back to Universal as soon as I returned home.”
“Working out is my ‘me time’. For those 2 hours it’s all about me and nothing else. I plug in my earbuds and get after it. It’s that simple. No distractions. My advice to others is to come up with a workout plan and stick to it…if you need help, don’t be afraid to ask for it. Always make time for yourself.”
