Senior programming has something for everyone, whatever your fitness level or ability. It’s more than a fitness program. Silver Strength & Mobility

45 min.

This class is appropriate for most fitness levels.  Seated and standing options are offered, with chair support for standing exercises.  Participants can remain seated the entire class. Using hand weights, a resistance band and small ball, this class will incorporate exercises to build muscular strength and endurance, coordination, reaction time, balance, flexibility and joint mobility.

Gentle Yoga

45 min.

This shoe-friendly class incorporates restorative breathing exercises, yoga poses and stretches focused on improving muscular strength, flexibility and balance.  All exercises can be performed seated or standing/seated with the instructor.

A chair is offered for standing balance support. All exercises are performed standing or seated with no floor work.

Silver Circuit

45 min.

This class is focused on improving both cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength and endurance through a circuit format.  All exercises are done standing with a chair for standing support. Hand held weights, resistance bands and a small ball are used for resistance tools. Low-impact aerobic moves are incorporated during the cardiovascular training portion of the class. Seated stretches are offered at the end of the workout.

Silver Groove

45 min.

This class uses low-impact aerobic movements to improve cardiovascular fitness. Spend 30 minutes on cardio-based movements followed by 10 minutes of resistance work using hand weights and a resistance band. All exercises performed standing with no chair support.

Senior Class Etiquette

Seniors classes at Universal are designed to provide an effective and safe workout for everyone.  Please be patient in waiting for prior class to fully end and allow for equipment to be put away before entering.

Seniors FAQs

Am I too old to start a fitness program?

Not at all. It’s never too late to start. Our programs are designed specifically for all fitness levels, including beginners in their 60s, 70s, 80s, and beyond.

What if I’ve never worked out before?

You are in the right place. Our trainers guide you step-by-step and tailor everything to your starting point.

Are the workouts safe?

Yes. Safety is our top priority. Every exercise is modified to fit your ability, and our coaches closely monitor form and intensity.

Do I need to be in shape before joining?

No. We welcome all fitness and experience levels. You join to get in shape. We meet you where you are and progress at your pace.

What types of senior programs do you offer?

We offer small group training (free), an indoor track for walking and/or running, water-based exercise, strength training, balance and mobility classes, gentle yoga, live in-person classes and virtual classes as well as recovery services.

What is Small Group Training?

Small Group Training gives you personalized coaching in a supportive group setting. These workouts focus on building strength, improving balance, and feeling more confident in everyday life.

Are there low-impact options?

Absolutely. We offer aquatic classes. In addition, all of our land-based classes for older adults are low-impact that are easy on the joints while still being highly effective.

Can I work out if I have arthritis or joint pain?

Yes. In fact, the right kind of movement can help reduce pain and improve mobility. We tailor everything to your needs.

Do you offer yoga classes that do not require getting down on the floor?

Yes. We offer Gentle Yoga classes that use a chair for both seated and standing options, with no floor work.

Do I need to bring my own equipment to class?

We recommend bringing a personal water bottle with you to exercise. We provide filling stations throughout the club. All other exercise equipment is available for use in the studio.
